1. Ross Buggy  Route

This walk is different from the normal country walk.  In 2004 the Ross Group of the Ramblers Association, in association with the Ryfield Centre Leisure Club, devised a route around and through Ross that would be accessable to those using electrically powered scooters and wheelchairs.  By ensuring the route did not have deep kerbs or steps it could be negotiated by users of children's buggies, hence the name, the Ross Buggy Route.  The Ross Group of Ramblers would like to acknowledge the considerable help help provided by the Herefordshire Council Rights of Way Department in developing the route and the Highways Department in developing the route.  The Wye Valley AONB has recently become involved and we thank them for providing the ramp  near Ashfield School.

2. Bus Walks in and Around Ross-on-Wye

The Walkers are Welcome network encourages the use of public transport.  Ross-on-Wye is well served by a network of local bus services providing links to neighbouring  cities, towns and villages.  This network offers walkers of all abilities the opportunity to leave the car behind and enjoy a countryside walk back to Ross.  All bus services start from Cantilupe Road, close to town centre.  Timetables for all services are provided in Cantilupe Road  and are available in booklet form from the Tourist Information Office (or try http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/transport/public_transport/26827.asp)
All of the routes use public or permissive footpaths and are clearly shown on the relevant Ordnance Survey maps.  Most of the routes are within Herefordshire and at the time of publication are believed to be completely open and passable.  If you should encounter any problem on these or any other footpaths in Herefordshire, please report the details preferably with a grid reference to:

3. Ben's Dog Friendly Walks Around Ross-on-Wye

Ben, the Director of Canine Affairs for the Ross-on-Wye Walkers are Welcome Group is pleased to announce that his long-awaited booklet of Dog-friendly Walks is now on sale at the Ross Tourist Information Centre.  With details of eight walks in and around Ross with sketch maps for each and distances up to 6 miles dogs of all sizes should find something of interest.  Ben the Labrador has long been a supporter of the Rights of Way Department’s policy of replacing stiles with gates and is looking forward to further progress following its transfer to Amey Herefordshire.

With walking becoming an ever more popular form of recreation and exercise for both dogs and their owners Ben is confident his new publication will enable both to enjoy further the beautiful countryside around Ross. He is keen to stress that owners need to be responsible when taking their pets into the countryside, taking extra care when around livestock or wildlife and being conscientious about cleaning up any dog mess.

Ben’s booklet is now available from the Ross-on-Wye Tourist Information Centre at a price of £3
