Dear Ross business owner,
You are probably aware that Ross is an
accredited Walkers are Welcome town.
Walkers are Welcome status helps
strengthen a town’s reputation as a place for visitors to come and enjoy the
outdoors, bringing useful benefits to the local economy. It helps to ensure that footpaths and
facilities for walkers are maintained in good condition, benefiting local
people as well as visitors. Nationally
there are now more than 75 walkers are welcome towns, and growing. Many of
these in our local cluster.
Three very successful Ross Walking
Festivals have been held in October each year and this year’s is to be held
from Friday 28th – Sunday 30th September. There are 12 walks on the programme including
the very popular cream tea walk and the 3 Castles Walk. I have enclosed some
leaflets for you and let you know that the booking office is now open. Should
you require more leaflets, these are available at Ross Market House Visitor
Centre.
Ross Walkers are Welcome have replaced
stiles with gates in the Bridstow Parish and on the Wye Valley Walk and have
improved signage on footpaths. The Committee has printed several walk leaflets
and is very pleased that they saved the town map from extinction.
This year we are proud to be hosting
the National Walkers are Welcome annual conference; an opportunity to further
raise the profile of Ross-on-Wye. This
will be held over the weekend of 20th & 21st
October. Delegates attending from other
areas will be requiring overnight accommodation. They will receive an accommodation list,
highlighting our current sponsors. There will be a local walk on Saturday, an
evening meal organised for Saturday evening and an all day conference on the
Sunday.
To enable us to continue promoting
Ross as a walking town we seek
sponsorship from local businesses.
Our Steering group is run by volunteers
and is a very strong supporter of the Association of Ross Traders (ART) and we
try to attend as many of their meetings as possible. We are also involved in
the implementation of the Ross Town Plan and help to develop new walking routes
in and around Ross.
Our web site www.ross-on-wyewalkersarewelcome.co.uk has links to all our business supporters who
have web sites.
If you are an existing sponsor, may we
ask if you would be prepared to continue your support with a further donation?
If you have yet to come aboard, may we invite you to join in and support our
work to promote Ross by making a contribution? All contributors will be
acknowledged as sponsors and listed on our business/accommodation page on the
Ross Walkers are Welcome website, with a hyperlink to your own website.
Accommodation sponsors will also be included on a printed sheet for the walking
festival and the national conference.
We have included a business sponsor
form at the bottom of this letter and if you are able to make a contribution we
assure you that you money will be spent carefully and wisely. The Committee
approves every item of expenditure before cheques are signed.
Please join in and help us to promote
Ross as a great place to visit.
Our AGM, is held in April, and
sponsors are encouraged to attend to hear a full review of activities
throughout the year.
Once again, thank you.

Sam
Phillips.
