This is an invitation to you or your business to become a member of the Ross-on-Wye Walkers are Welcome Group. You may have seen articles in the Ross Gazette in recent months covering the setting up of our organisation.  Briefly, the Group was formed in February 2009 with the aim of obtaining and maintaining Walkers are Welcome accreditation for Ross.  This is a national scheme that enables towns and villages to promote themselves as walking destinations for both day trips and longer holidays.  The Group is working with local councils, the Tourist Information Centre, the Public Rights of Way Department and various local groups and organisations.  We achieved accreditation.  We plan to hold a two day walking festival as an official launch on October 3^rd and 4^th. 

To ensure success with our endeavours we need funds. We appreciate that in the current economic climate budgets everywhere are under pressure but any assistance you can give will enable us to launch and promote Walkers are Welcome with the greatest impact.  We have secured a grant of £750 from Ross Town Council and seek to obtain a matching amount from sponsorship and donations.  The money raised will be used to print leaflets and maps to promote the launch and maintain the visibility of Ross-on-Wye as a Walkers Are Welcome town in the future.  Other specific advertising and sponsorship opportunities will be available as we finalise our plans for the new leaflets and maps.

Membership of the Group entitles you to attend any Committee meetings and vote at the Annual General Meeting. The first AGM will be held in April 2010 when a full review of activities and detailed accounts will be presented to the members.  If you wish to become a member of the Ross-on-Wye Walkers are Welcome Group the packages are: 

The benefit of  supporting this initiative is to promote Ross-on-Wye as an excellent  place to visit for a walking holiday.  In addition our Patrons will feature in  any  promotional leaflet and on our website.   Patrons can display the Walkers Are Wecome Logo.  As the Walkers Are Welcome network spreads across the country,this symbol will become well known and attract further customers.
